Let’s Talk About Domestic Violence

As some of you know, I was in an abusive relationship prior to my current one. Like many others, it started out normal enough. I met a guy, who seemed very nice. I was just a kid, not even old enough to drink, but unfortunately old enough to get married. Our relationship was pretty normal at that point, nothing spectacular, but before I knew it, we were at the courthouse, with him pulling me by my hand towards the courtroom where a judge was waiting. I specifically remember the hallway, and passing the cheap-fake-wood doors, trying to slow down and think.

I was too chicken to back out.

A few weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. I was happy, nervous but happy. Life went on.

Then one night, I was about 8 months pregnant. We had gotten into a fight, which was ever so normal by then. After a little while of yelling and screaming, he grabbed my hands. He proceeded to drag me out of the bedroom… literally drag. I had tripped, big belly and all, and he dragged me on the ground. He threw me on the ground, grabbed my shoulders, and threw me back again, bouncing my head off the ground.

While I lay on the ground crying, he went and grabbed the cell phone and house phone, took out the batteries and then dropped the empty phones by my head. I remember him walking outside, without a care in the world.

Eventually I ran downstairs to my neighbors house, where they consoled me and tried to convince me to call the cops.

Over the next year and change, the cops were at my house numerous times. I had my bruises photographed, and answered so many questions from officers. Each time, I was too scared to follow through. I kept thinking, where would I go? How would I support my daughter? (Who towards the end of it was almost 2.) What would he do? I was also deathly ill, I had undiagnosed Crohn’s Disease, and had dropped enough weight to not be able to function. How could I care for someone so small, when I couldn’t even care for myself.

I relied on a couple of friends coming over, to help me function and keep me safe. Eventually, I was lucky enough to get a diagnosis of what was wrong with my health, and soon after a hospital stay, started a drug regimen that put me into remission for long enough to plan.

I started college, I bought a house (under my name, not his). He eventually lost his job due to drug use, and I had found one. It was time. When my daughter was almost 3, I kicked him out of the house, and went to file for divorce.

The day after I kicked him out, after being up all night with a phone ringing off the hook, and threatening messages, he shut off the two things that were still in his name. The phone, and internet (and therefore my alarm system). I found out my internet was disconnected when a comcast employee showed up to disconnect. While he was there, my phone turned off. I was scared, and the tears started to flow.

What if I couldn’t do it? The comcast guy figured things out pretty quickly, and he called his manager and explained the situation, they left my internet running so I could establish my own account, and at least have my alarm running. In the meantime, I ran next door to call the cops.

I had done it, now I needed to be safe. So I stood in the road crying, telling this officer what my life had been like, that I finally had walked away, and that I had no phone to call the police if I needed them. I needed a restraining order. This officer, basically informed me, that since I had been too scared to show up at court to face my abuser, I couldn’t do anything. I was out of luck, and since we were still married…

… even though the house was in my name…

… he could still show up whenever he want. Which he did. All hours of the day, I started having people sleep on my couch, hoping it would deter him. Which it didn’t, one time, he ran in the house at 2 am screaming. The next time, he texted me an entire conversation I had had with a friend.. which he had heard from outside my window.

I eventually went to the courthouse and broke down. Someone finally listened to me, and showed me how to get a restraining order.

Time moved on, I was divorced, he skipped the state, without more than 2 phone calls to his daughter (which is fine by us). Years later, I have a stable life, with a lovely daughter, and a great boyfriend. He’s gone, and I’m healing.

.. and I have a strong distaste for anyone who hits a woman (or man for that matter). Over the past years, I’ve met women who were battered by their husbands, boyfriends, and sons. I’ve met women who were too scared to leave, too scared to report to the police, just like I was. I’ve met women who had survived and moved on like I did. I’ve also met several men, who have hit women. I’ve met men who beat their girlfriends, who beat their children, who beat their mother, who beat their sisters. I’ve met men, who thought it was justified. ¬†I’ve met men who told me, it was a mistake, they’d never do it again, even though the last time, wasn’t the first. I’ve met men, who were “too drunk to know what they were doing” and I’ve met men who deny and hide their past.

I get it. Everyone has a past. I do. However, if you hit a woman, regardless of the circumstance, you do not deserve my respect, nor do you deserve anonymity. Fortunately for me, no matter how far you run, your past will always follow you, convicted or not.

I wish we lived in a world where violence didn’t exist, but that is not the case, nor will it ever be. Just know that there are people out there like me, and millions of others. Women who endured, women who escaped, and women who have stood for others. We can help others, we can stand up and tell our stories, we can protect ourselves, we can demand justice and nurture courage. We can stand up for what we believe in, and we can stand up for ourselves and others.

A man who hits a woman, is not a man.

Monkey See, Monkey Get Felony

Kids. ¬†You know, the little tiny innocent squirmy things that you bring into this world? ¬†Accident or planned, they still depend on you, not only to take care of them but to show them how to act, how to be a decent human being once they’re out in the real world. ¬†Kids. ¬†Those same little boogers that pooped on your carpet during potty training, those little ones watch you and learn from you as they get older. ¬†A child’s parent is the first person they learn from, and it takes years to unlearn what you have learned through though your parents.

No one is perfect, we all make mistakes in parenting. ¬†I know I’ve made plenty, but I try to do the best I can. ¬†My daughter is the biggest reason why I straightened up my life after my divorce. ¬†I was heading down a dark path straight into the bottom of the bottle, and it was realizing this and knowing ¬†my daughter would grow up thinking my actions were okay, were normal that made me turn myself around. ¬†Now, thankfully, all I have to worry about is the short one taking my very tasteless jokes to school… or quoting horrible comedy. ¬†Quite possibly making a off-colored comment about boys in skinny jeans. ¬†I’m trying, but somethings I can’t help haha.

So then you have those parents who have doomed their children. ¬†You know exactly who I’m talking about. ¬†For instance… I watched COPS last night after buddha butt was in bed, as I occasionally do for kicks. ¬†This was something along the line of “Stupidest Criminals Pt 5”. ¬†It included two couples who were literally coming to blows over who owned a car. ¬†It was quite humorous, 3 rather large females screaming at each other and this one scrawny white boy trying to not get killed in the white trash crossfire. ¬†I was laughing my ass off when one of the females opened her bag and accidentally showed the officer her “bag o’ green” and was promptly arrested. ¬†I stopped laughing when one of the other females pulled a toddler out of the car. ¬†So she’s running around, trying to swing at the other women and scrawny man with a kid on her hip. ¬†I turned off the tv. ¬†Why the fuck do people do that? ¬†Why do they put their kids in the middle of that shit?

Your kids grow up thinking what they see at home, or with their parents is acceptable behaviour! ¬†That is reason NUMBER ONE why I divorced my ex-husband. ¬†I didn’t want her growing up thinking that two people that hated each other, violence and emotional abuse was a normal marriage. ¬†What your kids see, is what they are going emulate when they grow older!

Another instance. ¬†Buying, selling, and doing pills in front of your toddler. ¬†Getting drunk, fighting with your husband, until one of you ends up in jail, in front of your toddler. ¬†Yelling “I hate you! Stupid mother fucker!!” in front of your toddler. ¬†When your 3 year old, turns around and says “I hate you mother fucker!” to his daddy, don’t you dare act all surprised. ¬†When your 3 year old doesn’t blink at one of you being put into a cop car, that says something. ¬†When your 3 year old, thinks jacking another kid in the face is okay because “mommy does it”, you have a problem.

What you do, is what your kids will turn to. ¬†Why do that to your children? ¬†Yeah yeah yeah, insert miscellaneous reason here: Poverty, Abuse, Drugs, Etc Etc Etc. ¬†You know, there’s only so many excuses you can make. ¬†Get a job, get a divorce, get in rehab or fuck up your kid. ¬†I took one look at my child, and made a path out of my marriage. ¬†I took one look at my child and turned my life around. ¬†Better late than never… but christ people. ¬†Raise your children, give them stability, and be a good parent! ¬†The rest of us have to deal with your kids when they grow up, so please raise them right!

Guns, Shootings and Suburbia.. OH MY!

Let me pre-face this with a little bit of healthy ranting. ¬†I¬†hate suburban “gangbangers”, these kids need to realize that they are in the suburbs, not in the city. ¬†If they think they are so BAD, I’ll give them a free ride down to the south side of Chicago and see how long they last. ¬†Shut up, pull up your pants, give me your gun. ¬†Gangs are stupid, shootings are stupid, you live in the suburbs!

It drives me insane. ¬†Apparently there was a shooting in my neighborhood at one of the quick stop marts last night. ¬†Of course all I can think of is “Damn, seriously? Someone needs to slap the shit out of those kids.” (FYI: I use the word kids not knowing how old the suspect was, and frankly I don’t care. ¬†If you run around with a gun shooting people over stupid shit, you’re a kid.) ¬†It just blows my mind.

I live in a “poor” town, especially in comparison with the next town over which is a tourist trap from hell. ¬†Most of the residents here are good people, we haven’t really had a problem on our street except for some kids tagging a mailbox a few years ago (in which I offered them a ride to the south side too). ¬†But of course, where there are “poor” people, there are stupid-fucking-kids who need an ass-whooping. ¬†I do have to give it to the police here, they work the hardest they can to keep up with everyone, and I do see them¬†patrolling¬†quite often when there are issues.

It just blows my mind, it does. ¬†What’s even worse is that there are parents in this neighborhood that encourage the gang-banger mentality. ¬†Hey Mom and Dad, instead of letting your kids get drunk and high, how about making sure they get their butts to school? ¬†Maybe punish them once in a while? ¬†Stop letting your ghetto ass kids wander around the neighborhood at all hours, shouldn’t they be doing homework? ¬†Sleeping? ¬†Reading? ¬†Chores? ¬†Shit. ¬†But nooooo, when your stupid ass kid gets busted stealing booze from Jewel Osco, you laugh and toss them outside. ¬†How about not.

The sad fact of the matter? ¬†I was looking for a news article online, trying to find out exactly what happened, and you wouldn’t believe the amount of shootings I found in the last 10 years! ¬†Not in just my town either, all the way across the northern part of the county. (Granted they were sparse the farther I went back in time.) ¬†Seriously? ¬†What the fuck. ¬†This is the type of shit that people move out of the city to get away from? ¬†Of course it follows us out.

There is just no excuse. ¬†You could come here and yelling for or against gun control and it wouldn’t get you anywhere. ¬†These kids? ¬†Didn’t register their guns (duh!), neither did their parents. ¬†And no, people here aren’t going to arm themselves in enough numbers “to bring down crime” because one: they’re too poor, and two: it’s their shit-head kids who are stealing guns and shooting people. ¬†Gun-control is null-and-void here.

What needs to happen is good-ole-discipline. ¬†Parents need to rein in their little shit head kids, make them learn, punish them, trust me, a smack upside the head goes a long way. ¬†Schools need to follow suit, if you feel the kid has a gun, have all those wonderful school cops frisk the fuck out of them and call the police. ¬†Encourage learning and good grades, offer incentives, instead of “because you have to”. ¬†More importantly, ¬†residents of my town (hell, EVERY TOWN) need to stand up and so “This is IT, no more!!” and take care of each other. ¬†On my street, we look out for each other… from the gang-bangers who walk around to that one creepy guy who was harassing my neighbors wife. ¬†If you see something, be alert, call the police. ¬†If you don’t stand up and stop it, no one will! ¬†It’s not the bad-seeds that make a neighborhood, it’s the parents neglecting their children, it’s the residents hiding and pretending it’s not happening.

Some kids need an ass-whooping, some parents need a backbone, and everyone needs to stand together.  End of story.

… and I’m childish?

Thanks! :)

Do the world a favor and stop talking… we’re losing IQ points just listening to you.

The past two days have been one hell of a wild ride, a blur of drama. ¬†It’s been a while since I have gotten *that* angry. ¬†You know, angry enough to start destroying people’s lives… holding back only because the blow out might effect a child. ¬†One more person has now permanently lost my respect, as well as moved up on my shit list. ¬†The last bit of this dramatic affair happened 4 hours ago and I’m still seeing red. ¬†I don’t know how many times I have to prove that I don’t fuck around, especially if it effects me or my family, or someone I care about. ¬†I take care of business, and yet another person is learning this. ¬†You know as well as I, any good story begins with….

… SO THIS BITCH… yes. ¬†Let me clarify. ¬†BITCH. ¬†B.I.T.C.H. ¬†Bitch. ¬†So this biiiiitch, started a fight with me yesterday. ¬†I offended her with two bluntcards I had uploaded to facebook. ¬†I actually found out because she lacked the ovaries to talk to ME first, but instead talked to a friend of mine. ¬†She told my friend that I was childish and threatened him if I didn’t take them down. ¬†My friend told me and I took them down. ¬†She then proceeded to message me and we battled it out in facebook private message. ¬†I’d post it here like I usually do, but I brought up points that should not be shared with the wide web, it’s good enough that she has those thoughts dwelling in her head now. ¬†Eventually the fight moved to the phone, same ole shit as the message… until she threatened my friend… again because “she doesn’t think I’m a good person”. ¬†Okay. ¬†Are you following me? ¬†I’m not a good person because I don’t particularly like the broad and I posted two bluntcards on facebook… that obviously she felt related to her. (What’s that saying? ¬†If you manage to think it relates to you, it does? Guilty¬†conscious¬†much?) ¬†So the fight continued… I stood my ground and stated that if this shit continues she can speak to my lawyer. ¬†Simple as that. ¬†I don’t play these games.

Anyway. ¬†So that was the end of that… or not. ¬†Apparently not. ¬†Of course not. ¬†Because even though I’m the childish one… she had to one up me since obviously I hit a sore spot. ¬†So I’m at work today, minding my own business. ¬†A call comes in. ¬†My co-worker beat me to the punch line. ¬†Private Number. ¬†Female who asks for me. ¬†She puts them on hold and I answer the call after I finish the one I’m on. ¬†When I pick up it’s a male. ¬†Said male goes on to talk a lot of shit about my friend and myself, warns me to protect my family and then hangs up. ¬†The shit talking? ¬†The threat? The “I just wanted you to know” bullshit? ¬†The same exact ones¬†as the broad from yesterday. ¬†It’s a pretty unique threat/insult. ¬†Pretty fucking unique. ¬†So unique that the first time either of us had heard about it was last night.

Interesting. ¬†I’m not one to believe in coincidences. ¬†Not a single fucking bit. ¬†Especially not word for word, less than 14 hours after I originally heard it. ¬†Plus. ¬†More importantly. ¬†They called me at work. ¬†On my work line. ¬†You know, the one that’s not on my facebook. ¬†The one that not even my boyfriend, family or daycare have. ¬†Pretty fucking interesting. ¬†As far as I’m concerned… it’s a pretty big coinci-fucking-dence that a completely different person…. who doesn’t personally know me (as they stated)… repeats the SAME EXACT SHIT… ¬†less than a day later. ¬†Just a thought, it takes some effort (more than the average hater will give) to look up someone’s place of employment, look up the number, and get the balls to call me at work.

So whatever. ¬†Bet. ¬†Chick crossed the line. ¬†Crossed the line. ¬†So, like I did not too long ago, I took steps to protect myself, my life, my family as well as my work. ¬†I called the police and filed (yet another) harassment report. ¬†I told her I was not fucking around anymore. ¬†I told the caller that too. ¬†Simple as that. ¬†So that is officially said and done… and now if it happens again? ¬†Arrests will be made. ¬†Done deal. ¬†How many times do I have to tell all ya’ll. ¬†Don’t fuck with me.
