Americans & the Holiday Hell

Standard

It’s December now. Christmas is coming up and I’m a few weeks into my new job. I like it fine, but the holiday shifts (9am-7pm) 5 or 6 days a week are really rough. They’re rough on my mental health as well as my physical. I spend all day on the phone, the majority of it is spent listening to customer’s yell at me, as if I’m the direct cause of their product being back ordered.

Customer service is hell during the holidays. As if the working class & those below the poverty line didn’t have enough to deal with during this time of year. Now we get to listen to people who blow more money than our rent or mortgage on a single gift tell us that we’ve ruined Christmas, ruined lives.

The holiday season reminds me not only how much I detest rich people, it also reminds me of how Capitalism failed. Watching my coworkers work themselves to death just to buy a few Christmas presents on top of paying the utilities or god forbid their student debt. The holiday season is nothing more than putting the rich being served by the poor on display for the world to see. It’s normalized to scream at a worker when you don’t get what you want. It’s almost as if everyone forgot the entire religion they claim to follow on Sundays.

Holidays in America are just another version of capitalist hell.
